灵异事件。。。tcc dun read...

Oh my god。。。

。haizz….

BANGKOK: About 1,000 anti-government protesters marched past Bangkok's upmarket shopping malls on Monday accusing police of brutality, upping pressure on the increasingly-isolated prime minister.

In a repeat of a similar rally on Friday, supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) handed out leaflets and CDs showing graphic images of protesters injured in a deadly clash with police earlier this month.

"The police try to distort the truth. I insist that what we bring is the whole truth," Somsak Kosaisuk, one of the PAD leaders, told crowds of people dressed in yellow shirts, which shows loyalty to the revered Thai king.

Two people were killed and nearly 500 injured on October 7 when police fired tear gas to prevent thousands of PAD supporters from blocking parliament, prompting some protesters to fight back.

A police officer at the scene Monday estimated that about 1,300 protesters had turned out, blocking much of the traffic on a normally-busy road. About 300 police officers stood on the sidelines.

The PAD are trying to bring down the democratically-elected People Power Party (PPP) government, accusing it of running the country on behalf of ousted and exiled premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who they accuse of corruption.

Although the PAD rally was sedate, Thai newspapers on Monday warned of possible clashes with pro-government groups.

Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, a pro-government activist, told AFP that they planned to gather supporters on Monday outside the National Police Headquarters, not far from the shopping district where the PAD are rallying.

"We will ask police to come and fight back if the army stages a coup... and we want to give moral support to police," Somyos said.

"We do not have the means to create violence because we are innocent people who will come out without weapons. We just want to keep our democratic system."

Thailand's powerful army chief on Thursday strongly hinted that Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat should step down and dissolve parliament to take responsibility for this month's clashes.

Somchai - Thaksin's brother-in-law - has only been in his post for a month after a court decision removed his predecessor Samak Sundaravej, and has insisted he will carry on in his role for the time being.

BANGKOK - High levels of the industrial chemical melamine have been found in condensed milk produced in Thailand, the public health ministry said Wednesday.

"Mali" has already been ordered off the shelves, it said, in the wake of a melamine scandal in China that has killed four children and sickened
thousands.

"According to the Food and Drug Administration, yesterday tests showed there was a very high concentration of melamine found in a sample of Mali condensed milk made with palm oil," Deputy Public Health Minister Wicharn Meenchainan said in a statement.

"Consumers and operators should not use such product for it may be harmful to the body," the statement said. - AFP/vm

Title : Police fire tear gas on Thai parliament protesters
By :
Date : 07 October 2008 0847 hrs (SST)
URL : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific/view/380815/1/.html

BANGKOK: Thai police fired tear gas to try and disperse thousands of anti-government protesters massing outside parliament on Tuesday, injuring at least ten people, police and medical officials said.

Police fired off the rounds at about 6.20am (2320 GMT Monday) after rumours circulated that authorities would break up the fresh rally, state-run television channels reported.

A police official who did not want to be named told AFP that about 1,000 police officers used tear gas and smoke bombs against 2,000 protesters to try and retake control of a road in front of parliament.

Television stations showed images of demonstrators trying to barricade themselves around the outside of Bangkok's parliament building with piles of tyres, while ambulances rushed to the scene.

"More than ten protesters were injured from the police dispersing the protest, but as of now there are no deaths," Surachet Sathitniramai, a doctor from the national emergency centre, told AFP.

Thousands of supporters of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) marched to parliament late Monday, using trucks to try and seal off the building ahead of an address by the new cabinet.

Thailand's new government - who were sworn in late last month - are due on Tuesday to deliver their first policy address to the house, but the protesters are demanding the elected administration step down.

Protesters have occupied Bangkok's main government compound since late August, but many moved to nearby parliament Monday evening after lawmakers agreed in principle to amend the constitution - a move that the PAD opposes.

PAD leaders are demanding that the elected government step down because of its links to ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul told the crowds who remained at Government House late Monday that the march on parliament would be their "final battle", but Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat insisted the house session would go ahead.

"It is not right for the PAD to obstruct the representatives of the people," he said on Monday, adding that police would maintain law and order to ensure lawmakers could get to parliament.

The PAD began their campaign in late May claiming that the ruling People Power Party's plan to amend the constitution was aimed at helping Thaksin escape graft charges, and they stormed Government House on August 26.

Authorities over the weekend arrested of key PAD leader Chamlong Srimuang and protest organiser Chaiwat Sinsuwong, heightening tensions in the kingdom.

eat kangaroo cos they fart less???haha....tis article is so funny..haha

Title : Scientist says eating kangaroos could help fight global warming
By :
Date : 01 October 2008 1657 hrs (SST)
URL : http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp_asiapacific/view/379575/1/.html

SYDNEY: An offbeat suggestion that Australians should eat kangaroos instead of cattle and sheep has been given a scientific stamp of approval by the government's top climate change adviser.

The belching and farting of millions of farm animals is a major contributor to Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, Professor Ross Garnaut noted in a major report to the government on global warming.

Kangaroos, on the other hand, emit negligible amounts of methane gas.

If farmers were included in a system requiring industry to buy permits for the gas they produce, the cost of meat would rise and could lead to a change in eating habits, Garnaut said in the 600 page report released Wednesday.

"For most of Australia's human history – around 60,000 years – kangaroo was the main source of meat," he said.

"It could again become important. However, there are some significant barriers to this change, including livestock and farm management issues, consumer resistance and the gradual nature of change in food tastes."

Garnaut cited a study looking at the potential for kangaroos to replace sheep and cattle for meat production in Australia's rangelands, where kangaroos are already harvested.

The study concludes that by 2020, beef cattle and sheep numbers could be reduced by seven million and 36 million respectively, allowing for an increase in kangaroo numbers from 34 million now to 240 million by 2020.

This would be more than enough to replace the lost lamb and beef production, and kangaroo meat would become more profitable than cattle and sheep as the price of emissions permits increased.

Garnaut's report said livestock, mainly cattle and sheep, are responsible for some 67 percent of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite being the national animal and appearing on the Australian coat of arms, millions of kangaroos are slaughtered in the wild each year to control their numbers and much of the meat is used for pet food.

The idea of farming them for human consumption is controversial, but many health-conscious Australians already eat kangaroo meat.

"It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels, it's very clean in the sense that basically it's the ultimate free range animal," says Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales's Institute of Environmental Studies.
